               Mission Statement

Our mission is to create and maintain a repository of artifacts, documents and visual images that document the African American educational experience in the City of Dallas.  It is important to preserve this history so that contemporary society can study the lessons learned through the struggles and triumphs of African American educators, students and the community at-large.

The African American Educational Experience Oral History Project

Education changes lives.  The African American Educational Experience in Dallas Oral History Project will allow us to collect the voices of individuals who impacted or were impacted by the Dallas educational experience, an educational experience that for many was powerful enough and enduring enough to breach the walls of ignorance and open pathways to success.

By collecting the voices of individuals who directly or indirectly were engaged in the Dallas educational experience, we hope to preserve the experiences of those who transitioned from segregated schools to desegregated schools.  It is important to preserve the lessons learned from their experience.

The African American Educators Hall of Fame

The project will identify and recognize educators and others who made positive contributions to the educational experience of African Americans in Dallas.  Inductees will be both historical and contemporary figures

This project is designed to include recognition of not only notable individuals in the field of education, but also individuals whose contributions in the field of education may have been overlooked in the past.
