Any and all persons who support the mission of drNABSE are eligible and encouraged to become members of our vibrant and growing network of professionals. The best and brightest educators are represented among us to share a deep commitment to improving educational opportunities and achievement in our schools and communities. Presently, our membership is approximately 500 members. Two-thirds of that number also hold membership in the national organization, National Alliance of Black School Educators. The Texas Alliance of Black School Educators is our sister organization to provide for those in smaller districts without local affiliates. We encourage our members to belong to all three. Membership categories are:

drNABSE Programs
drNABSE offers an array of professional development and information sharing programs for our growing membership of concerned educators and community leaders. Each year, the Executive Board gathers in a full-day retreat to set priority goals and programs for the coming year. The current goals are student achievement in mathematics, reading and membership development. The current menu of programs include:
1. Executive Board Meetings – held monthly (first Monday) to guide the work of the organization. The executive officers, commission chairs set the agendas for the events of the year. This group also meets with the general superintendent periodically to share our concerns and offer our assistance in support of the schools, community and staff.
2. General Membership Meetings – held quarterly to share informative presentations, cultural literacy materials and strategies to respond to the issues of momentous import.
3. Instructional Conference – held in October to provide professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators in support of student achievement.
4. Mentoring Encounters – created to align students, teachers, administrators, alternative certification interns and scholarship recipients with members who care for and guide them through the formative stages. ExCET Tutorials are provided for teachers and administrators who will take this test.
5. Issues and Answers Forum – for members and community to discuss concerns, research strategies for addressing our concerns. Positions statements grow out of this forum for public dissemination.
6. Honorary Membership/Scholarship and Awards Program – is the annual event during which we induct the retiring educators into the Honorary Member,ship Commission, and award the Dr. Marvin E. Edwards Scholarship, Dr. Emmett Conrad Scholarship, Representative Mickey Leland Memorial Scholarship, the Thelma Paige Richardson Scholarship and the drNABSE/Paul Quinn Scholarship to deserving students, recognize schools, principals and teachers who have distinguished themselves during the year through their performanc in affecting student achievement.
7. Executive Board Planning Retreat – held in June of each year to set priorities for goal setting and programs to achieve the goals as well as the calendar for the coming year.
8. Archives and History Program – is a collaboration between the African American Museum and the drNABSE to chronicle the education of African American students in the public schools of Dallas County. A Hall of Fame to memorialize renowned educators is planned for 2004 and beyond.
9. Special Programs – are planned and staged in recognition of special events. Receptions welcoming new superintendents, African
American Heritage Celebrations, hosting the national NABSE Conference and TABSE conferences, African American History Lecture Series NABSE Demonstration Schools Collaboration and support.
drNABSE continues to be the premier organization to advocate for African American students and educators. We have pledged ourselves to give special advocacy for African American learners who have been poorly served in the past; and through the creation of concrete models that demonstrate the goals of academic and cultural excellence set forth so clearly in Saving the African American Child.
